"Having read Jean-Luc Lagarce's Distant Land, it may at first seem vague, complicated, incomprehensible, and in the end, unworkable (or maybe unnecessary?). But this first impression is misleading. The interlacing of sadness, tenderness, intuition, love, despair, loss, debts, brutality, fear of death - is woven elegantly and musically, with the text often becoming blank verse, and the voices of characters entwining into a peculiar polyphony. It brings forth a painful story about the human fate: love and death."
